Kampala University Graduates Over 3,500 as It Marks 26 Years of Excellence

Kampala University was a scene of joy and celebration as 3,544 students graduated during its 22nd Graduation Ceremony, held on April 17, 2025 at the Ggaba Main Campus under the theme “Celebrating 26 Years: Advancing Efforts to Make Kampala University Greater”.

This year’s milestone event not only marked over two decades of academic achievement but also showcased the university's growing impact in Uganda’s higher education landscape. Among the graduands, 1,706 were male (48.24%) and 1,838 were female (51.86%). A remarkable 126 students attained First Class Honours degrees.

The School of Nursing and Health Sciences, which held its 6th graduation ceremony concurrently, produced 218 graduates — 185 of whom were female, underscoring the growing presence of women in the health sector.

Delivering a speech on behalf of Rt. Hon. Rukia Isanga Nakadama, the Third Deputy Prime Minister, State Minister for Primary Education Hon. Joyce Moriku Kaducu commended the graduates and emphasised the crucial role of youth in national development.

"Our youth are the heartbeat of Uganda's future. Today, we celebrate the graduation of many talented young individuals who represent the hopes and aspirations of a brighter tomorrow," she said.
"We count on you, our graduates, to rise to the occasion and be the torchbearers of progress in your respective fields."

University Chancellor Hon. Prof. George Mondo Kagonyera urged graduates to uphold integrity in their professional and personal lives.

"Resist the temptation of corruption wherever you go," he advised.

Founding Vice-Chancellor Owek. Amb. Al-haj Prof. Badru D. Kateregga expressed heartfelt gratitude to the university’s stakeholders, particularly the Kateregga family, for their unwavering support through challenging times.

“Their extraordinary support, especially when I was at the brink of death, has been instrumental in keeping this institution strong,” he noted emotionally.

Prof. Kateregga also emphasised the need for universities to evolve alongside technological and societal shifts, advocating for hybrid learning, interdisciplinary programmes, and stronger ties with industry to ensure students are prepared for the dynamic world ahead.

Addressing the graduates, he said:

"Today, you celebrate your hard work, resilience, and dedication. As you begin this new chapter, remember this is just the beginning. The world awaits your talents. The sky is not the limit; it's just the start."

This mega ceremony reflected not only academic success but also Kampala University’s steady growth and commitment to shaping the future of the world through education.
