Kampala University Launches a Language Center For Sudanese Refugee Students in Uganda
On 31st January, Kampala University launched an English Language Center for Sudanese refugee students who are affected by the War at Home.
Loaded excitement and merriment were witnessed by Sudanese students who were displaced by the debacle of political instabilities in their lovely Country.
Management of Kampala University deemed it fit to come to the rescue of these innocent students by creating an environment that would enable them to have continuity with their academics from Uganda.
At home, they have been speaking and studying in Arabic, now they are in Uganda where English is the Official Language, mode of communication and instruction, that is why Kampala University and Step Group Company have set up an English language Centre located at Wandegeya in Kampala to fine-tune these students Queen’s Language to fit well into the society that is hosting them before they embark on their Main Courses at either Kampala University or Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU). The duo will be registering these students for respective programmes immediately after the English remedial course so that their journeys to prosperity which were disorganized by the war, come back to normalcy.
While addressing some of these students who gathered at the Main Campus in Ggaba during the launch, Owek.Amb.Al-haj Prof.Badru Kateregga the Vice-Chancellor of Kampala University solaced and assured them of a better future and that the sky will be the limit.
Don’t lose hope, many have been refugees but now they are successful people, they have made it in life, and you too will make it, study here peacefully and when you go back home use your academic knowledge and skills to build up Sudan to its past Glory, Professor Kateregga comforted them.
The Rector of Islamic University in Uganda Prof.Ismael Gyagenda Ssimbwa highlighted that education is the only tool that can set the minds of everyone free. Prof emphasized the necessity of unity in Africa and the provision of quality Education to the Youth if all insanities are to be eradicated.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Kampala University (ARII) Dr.Wardah M Rajab Gyagenda accentuated that giving a second chance to our lovely Brothers and Sisters who were displaced by the war is a sign of togetherness that promotes peace, love and respect to the affected.
Dr. Muhammed Ziyab, the Director of Kampala University English Learning Center said that this Center will rescue our students from idleness, and the psychological and physical torture they have suffered.
He thanked Kampala University for accepting their plea because many Schools had turned down their kind request. Finally, we have a home now, Shukran Dr. appreciated it.
The event was attended by the Director of Quality Assurance Kampala University, the Academic Registrar Mr. Hamza Segawa, the Public Relations Officer Mr. Julius Ssekatawa, Mr. Mbaraga Boniventura the Deputy Academic Registrar Kampala University Graduate School, the Quality Assurance Officer Ms. Nabula Faridah, the Guild President H.E Esther Florence Namale.
