Chief Scout Appeals To President Museveni To Save Scouts Land At Kaazi
During the closing Ceremony of the National Scouts Education Camp at Kaazi Scouts Camping and Training Centre, the Chief Scout of Uganda, Owek. Ambassador Al-haj Prof. Badru Kateregga, who doubles as the Vice-Chancellor of Kampala University, appealed to His Excellency the President of the Republic of Uganda, Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who is also the Scouts Patron, to save the Scouts' land at Kaazi-Busabala-Wakiso from grabbers.
While delivering his speech, Prof. Kateregga requested the Vice-President, H.E Jesca Rose Epel Alupo, who represented His Excellency the President, to inform him that the entire scouting fraternity had tried their best to save the Scouts Land. Still, they seem incapacitated. It’s high time you inform our Scouts Patron to immediately intervene to save the Scouts legendry and bring to book all those behind this Land grabbing Bonanza Prof.Kateregga said.
He revealed that of late the World Organisation of Scout Movement, (WOSM), on realising the current mess at Kaazi that includes clearing of the forests at the Scouts Camping Site, has threatened to suspend the Uganda Scouts Association, from WOSM, until we put our house in order.
Prof. Kateregga reminded H.E., the President, of his earlier pledge to the Uganda Scouts Association when he came to close the same occasion in 2022, He promised to procure for the association a bus, a pickup, a brass band, and an offer of two billion shillings, which pledge to date has never been received.
In the President’s speech that the VP delivered, H.E. urged scouts to join the war against poverty and social backwardness, He added that poverty in Uganda is since we still have 38% of the homestead outside the money economy, they are in the subsistence economy of working only for food. You cannot expect to achieve prosperity if you do not have a source of income that enables you to meet your needs for clothes, housing, medicine, etc President emphasised. Therefore, if you want to build prosperous and stable homes, you must transition from subsistence farming to the modern money economy, he advised.
At the same event, Vice President H.E. Jesca Rose Epel Alupo was commissioned as a member of the Uganda Association.
The Function attracted thousands of Scouts from different Schools across the Country.
